Filigree beyond Craft

NGO EC Ma Ndryshe has launched the implementation of the Filigree beyond Craft project, funded by the project "Dialogue among Communities through Comprehensive Preservation of Cultural Heritage", implemented by UNDP and funded by the European Union Instrument for Stability and Peace Contribution (IcSP).

As part of this project in Prizren, the first cycle of training in the craft of Filigran has begun. 15 applicants selected from the first call, among which there are participants from the Municipalities of Prizren Region, women and young people and representatives of different communities who will be trained by the Filigrani Enterprise filmmakers in one 8 week period. In parallel, EC has also launched the next call for the second cycle of training, from which 15 additional applicants will be selected who will continue their training in Filigree. The 5 most successful applicants from the first and second training groups will be offered paid internships over a 6 month period, with future employment opportunities at the Filigrani enterprise.

The project is designed to respond the need of protecting and promoting Kosovo's intangible cultural heritage. ''Filigree beyond Craft'' is a 10 month project during which besides training 30 people in Filigree Craft and providing practical work opportunities for 5 people, it includes a number of other activities aimed at documenting, promoting and transferring the skills of this craft in women and youth.

''Filigree beyond Craft'' aims to build trust and collaboration among communities through a platform for information and knowledge sharing. During the implementation of the project the main activities will be: Training Workshops on Filigree, Internship Program, Strategic Framework Development, Web Platform, Filigree Documentary and Filigree Fair. Preserving handicrafts that are under threat by engaging young people and women is at the core of the activities that will be developed under this project.
